Course description

Chess is more than just a game—it’s a gateway to critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative strategy. This class is designed to introduce young learners to the beautiful game of chess and help them build a strong foundation. Students will develop essential skills such as logical reasoning, memory enhancement, concentration, and spatial awareness while having fun in a supportive and engaging environment.

Class Structure and Curriculum

Understanding the chessboard: rows, columns, and diagonals. Introduction to chess pieces and setting up the board.

Learning the movement of each piece: King, Rook, Bishop, Queen, Knight.

Special moves: Understanding pawn movement and capturing puzzles. Demonstration of a basic start.

Introducing the concepts of protection (ABCD), combat, and the points of each piece. Students will engage in introductory gameplay.

Learning the concepts of check, getting out of check, and the term checkmate.

Practicing checkmate in one move, understanding and applying the castling rule.

Understanding en-passant, solving related puzzles, and mastering pawn promotion strategies.

Introduction to opening principles, including controlling the center, developing pieces, and ensuring king safety.

Understanding legal and illegal moves, the rules of draw by threefold repetition, stalemate, and offering/declining a draw.

Live gameplay analysis, solving advanced puzzles, and introducing intermediate strategies for winning games.
